Getting to grips with the Equality Act

A legal expert’s view on the Equality Act was shared with the Lancaster business community recently.

David Park, Oglethorpe. Sturton and Gillibrand's employment law specialist, was the guest speaker at the seminar organised by Lancaster and District Chamber of Commerce.

Twelve businesses attended the workshop which examined the law on discrimination, which changed on October 1, and looked at how to avoid getting caught out.

David, who advises both employers and employees and represents clients in Employment Tribunal cases, lectures regularly on the subject.

He said: “The Equality Act affects almost every business in the country and it is very easy to inadvertently fall foul of the rules, which could prove to be very expensive. We can advise on your contracts and policies to prevent and defend claims, saving time and money.”
