Living and working in the countryside poses a unique set of daily challenges, where business and personal lives often overlap. Having worked closely with local farming families for generations, Oglethorpe, Sturton & Gillibrand have built a great understanding of the needs of the farming community and can offer a full range of advice in all aspects of the industry.
Across the departments, our agricultural specialists are able to provide a full range of advice on all agricultural matters, including sales and purchases of farms, bare land and landed estates, Landlord and Tenant arrangements, Environmental issues, Sporting & Fishing rights, boundary and property disputes, as well as Wills and succession planning.
The Agricultural Property team particularly (pictured) boasts a wealth of specialist experience, with Avelina Wright recently joining colleagues, Lara McIntosh, a solicitor in the agricultural property team and John Myers, the Head of the Department, as a Partner of the firm and Manager of our Kirkby Lonsdale office. Avelina is just on the doorstep for many farmers across the South Lakeland, Lancashire and North Yorkshire areas and has acted for farmers on a local and national level, dealing with a wide range of matters for some time. Passionate about this area of law, she also co-founded the Agricultural Law Association’s North West group and remains a regional coordinator.
The team has also recently been further boosted by the arrival of Michael Rutter to the Lancaster office. The son of a dairy farmer himself, Michael fully understands the daily challenges facing the community and this unique insight has served him well since qualifying in 2019.
As regular supporters of the local agricultural shows, we are pleased to able to support both the Garstang and Westmorland shows in their return following the COVID-19 pandemic. Following guidelines, our team will be at each show and are looking forward to seeing our clients once again.
