We understand that making the best arrangements for your children will be your priority when your relationship breaks down. Disputes involving children can include arrangements for where the children will live, the time spent with each parent and financial issues.
It is vitally important to take specialist legal advice at an early stage. We can advise you on the options for resolving any disputes in the best interests of the children.
Negotiation and Mediation
Often parties find it difficult to agree arrangements for children on their own. We are here to help you to agree these arrangements. We can assist you with reaching an agreement either by negotiation or through mediation.
Our experienced team of family solicitors recognise the importance of working with you and your family to achieve the best solution. We have the expertise and understanding of the legal issues to advise you on negotiating an agreement.
Court Proceedings
Occasionally the dispute simply cannot be resolved by negotiation or mediation or if there is an urgent concern. In those circumstances we may recommend making an application to the Court.
We can advice you on the Court process and represent you at Court if proceedings become necessary.
The main Orders concerning children that can be made by the Court are:
- Child Arrangement Orders to define where the children should live and the amount of time spent with each parent
- Prohibited Steps Orders – Orders to prevent something ocurring, for example removing a child to live elsewhere in England and Wales or abroad
- Specific Issues Orders – dealing with a specific issue such as change of name or choice of school
