We’re excited to announce that Allan Sumner has joined our Partnership team. He is a well-known and respected member of the legal community in the North West and has extensive experience of local and national clients. He is also an acknowledged expert in commercial property matters and dealing in property work for estates.
Allan is the first recruitment we’ve made at Partner level for some years. Our approach has been to develop our solicitors as they progress in their careers up to Partner level. Allan is a notable exception as he brings an extraordinary wealth of experience to the team and shares our values for delivering outstanding levels of service to our clients.
After leaving Balliol College, Oxford in 1991, Allan chose to follow a career in the law and swiftly moved through the ranks to reach Partner level in just seven years.
Says Allan, “I had been aware of Oglethorpe Sturton & Gillibrand for some years and always felt that I could be a good fit. There have been a lot of changes over the past 20 years in the way law firms operate, which, in my view, has often been at the expense of the client. Oglethorpe Sturton & Gillibrand is a traditional firm with strong values that are focused on delivering outstanding service to its clients, which is as it should be.
He adds, “I’m looking forward to sharing my experience and knowledge with my colleagues to help grow and strengthen the firm’s offering and client base. My approach is to be straightforward, approachable and accessible at all times.”
In his spare time, Allan is a keen runner and will be taking part in the Lakeland 100, a circular run of 100 miles with a route along public bridleways and footpaths through valleys and fells of Cumbria. He has completed several marathons, the most recent being the Edinburgh Marathon Festival in May 2019, and two Ultra-Marathons of 50 miles and has managed to persuade his family that they love fell running too.
He likes to take lunchtime runs when possible, so look out for him on the streets of Lancaster.
